2021–2025

Integration hub across 15 systems in a hybrid architecture

Context

Global company with more than 50,000 employees, through a technology partner.

Role

Leading concurrent data engineering and data integration initiatives, and solution architecture, together with the team.

Challenge

The organisation needed to bring order to data about buildings, floors and rooms, the assignment of rooms to employees, and contact details — and to build a meeting room directory covering availability, capacity and, in some cases, equipment. The information lived in 15 separate systems: facility management software from 3 different vendors, partly on-premise and partly in vendor clouds, alongside a cloud-hosted HR system. There was no common data model and no single source of truth.

Scope

Building an integration hub across 15 source systems in a hybrid architecture — on-premise and cloud deployments on both sides of the integration · more than 100 ETL processes · a shared data model for buildings, workplaces and contacts · direct integrations with around 20 downstream systems · domain interfaces: meeting room directory with availability and capacity, workplace assignment, facilities dictionary, phone contact assignment · a MuleSoft API ecosystem exposed both on-premise and in the cloud · reporting and analytics in Tableau

Outcome

A consistent data model for buildings, workplaces and employee contacts across the entire organisation. More than 80 systems worldwide now consume data from the hub. The whole platform migrated from Oracle to Snowflake and from Informatica PowerCenter to Talend Data Fabric.

2018

Cybersecurity audit and network architecture redesign for a hospital

Context

Hospital.

Role

Project manager.

Challenge

Assess the security posture of the IT environment and arrive at an architecture the hospital’s in-house team could maintain on its own.

Scope

Audit of systems and the network environment · redesign of the logical network architecture and segmentation · access controls: VPN, VLANs, firewalls, policy-based access · review of server resources and software landscape · migration to a Hyper-V virtual cluster

Outcome

A more secure and more manageable environment, handed over to the internal team together with an administration model.

2018

Collective business development for a group of 30 medical companies

Context

Foreign government trade agency, via its diplomatic mission in Poland.

Role

Business development adviser, responsible for the Polish side of the programme.

Challenge

30 medical technology companies were looking for their first commercial contacts in Poland. The task was to find counterparts on the Polish side for each of them and bring both parties together at the trade fair in Düsseldorf.

Scope

2 months of preparation: product and market analysis for each company, identifying and vetting potential Polish partners, arranging meetings · 3 days on site: running the conversations alongside representatives of both sides, moderation and contact exchange

Outcome

60 business meetings — arranged over 2 months of groundwork and held across 3 days of Medica in Düsseldorf.

2017

Review of hospital IT and systems landscape in India

Context

Private healthcare group.

Role

Independent digital health expert.

Challenge

Assess the operational maturity and capability of hospital systems across selected facilities in India — a market with a very different profile from the European one.

Scope

Assessment of HIS, LIS and PACS platforms · review of IT organisation, infrastructure and assets · analysis of selected operational processes and the local healthcare billing context

Outcome

A clear picture of the local vendor landscape and actual system capability, used to inform the group’s decisions.

2016–2017

EMR and HIS selection for a healthcare group’s commercial hospitals

Context

Private healthcare group operating commercial hospitals in Poland and abroad.

Role

Project manager and adviser in the procurement process.

Challenge

Select the target EMR and HIS platform for the group’s hospitals and prepare an investment decision spanning several years — across 2 markets with different legacy positions.

Scope

Assessment of systems in use across the group’s hospitals · requirements analysis · running the RFI and RFP process and vendor communication · comparison of shortlisted solutions · financial analysis of proposals covering capital and operating costs over a 5-year horizon · recommendation on procurement direction and pre-implementation phasing

Outcome

A recommendation that became the basis for the group’s multi-year decisions on hospital systems architecture.

2013–2014

Bringing a medical data analytics solution to Polish hospitals

Context

Polish arm of an international medical software vendor. Product built by a technology partner.

Role

Product manager for the medical systems portfolio on the distributor side.

Challenge

The technology partner had built a tool for advanced analysis of clinical and operational data. What was missing was access to the hospital market and the layer connecting the product to real hospital databases.

Scope

Building the integration layer providing access to EMR, HIS and LIS data · coordinating the partnership · market preparation and acquisition of the first customers

Outcome

First customers secured and a 2-year exclusivity on distribution. Research data preparation time reduced from 20–30 days of manual analytical work to roughly 15 minutes.

2008–2009

Hospital management system for a newly built 150-bed facility

Context

Polish HIS vendor. End customer: a newly built private multi-specialty hospital.

Role

Project manager on the vendor side and lead of one of the development teams.

Challenge

Deliver a complete system for a hospital that was still under construction — from analysis to production go-live — in 10 months.

Scope

Coordination of more than 70 specialists across 11 teams covering software development, implementation, infrastructure and third-party integration · ownership of the financial and billing module: inpatient cost calculation, fee-for-service processing, invoicing · integration via HL7 and web services with ERP, LIS, ambulatory systems and DICOM-connected diagnostic devices

Outcome

System delivered on schedule, serving over 500 users and covering HIS, RIS, PACS, EMR, pharmacy, billing and payer reporting.
